Fiumicino International Airport
Rome, one of the worlds’s most visited cities, plays host to millions of tourists on a yearly basis. These tourists use the three airports in Rome as points where they can enter and exit Italy during their vacation – a very sensible thing to do as Rome is one of the most sought after tourist attraction in the world. Any person touring through Europe will definitely want to visit Rome and this is made easier by the fact that the city holds one of the largest airports in the world, the Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport, commonly known as Fiumicino International Airport. So getting a flight into Rome is a guaranteed deal. However, there are no guarantees of getting a cheap and affordable airfare to Rome. The reasons may be varied or even unknown yet there is no doubt that airfare to Rome is likely to be more expensive than to most other destinations in Europe. No need to give up hope though. This may merely be a suggestion that before taking the trip, you have to plan it meticulously and thoroughly.
The Fiumicino International Airport in Rome is located at quite a distance from the main city, that is to say, more than 30 kilometers. This is nothing unique as it is the case with most major airports in Europe. Getting back to the Fiumicino, most of the domestic and international traffic flies in and out of its 5 terminals. Hence, you will most probably be landing here especially if the flight you are getting into Rome is on a direct route.
The Fiumicino is not the only airport in Rome. There is a second airport called the Ciampino Airport. Once the main airport in Rome, it has been appointed second place since the construction and opening of Fiumicino. The reason for this was that Ciampino was not seen as fit enough to last a long time. However, the low-cost airlines flying in from Europe still prefer using Ciampino. This has given the airport a much needed second chance at being of service to the travelers. As a tourist, you can benefit from getting a flight here as it is much closer to the main city of Rome then Fiumicino is and hence you save big bucks on taxi fare which is a very welcome scenario for a tourist already feeling the pinch of the airfare.
Making the most of the cost-effectiveness of the low fare airlines flying into Ciampino may come with a little bother though. To take advantage of this opportunity, a tourist will firstly need to get a grand deal from the home airport to a major city in Europe and from there purchase a ticket on some low fare airline flying into Ciampino. This may be a bit more bothersome than getting a direct flight into Fiumicino but it really helps in getting cheap airfare into Rome.
Then there is another way to save big on airfare. This is to travel during low season. The city of Rome knows no such thing as off-season so there is no point waiting for completely rock-bottom prices but traveling during the low season which lasts somewhere between late October and early April tourists can save some precious dough on their airfare.
