Rome, the capital of Italy, is a modern and multi-ethnic city. With a population of 2.7 million people, it is located near the Tiber River on the central-western part of the Italian peninsula. According to a research, it is the third most-visited tourist destination in the EU.
Rome is filled with tourist attractions. One of the most visited of these is the Colosseum. The site of former gladiatorial conquests, this lasting symbol of early Rome steadfastly sticks to its foundations. Rome boasts of the largest international airport in Italy called the called the Fiumicino, or Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport. It is an extremely busy airport with flights coming in from all over the world carrying hundreds of tourists that are attracted towards this historical city through out the year but especially during the spring and fall seasons. It comprises of four terminals. Terminal A deals with traffic arriving from Domestic Flights and Italy’s main airline i.e. Alitalia. Terminal B and C cater to the international airlines, and Terminal 5 deals with International Flights to the United States with these airlines: American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta, United Airlines, US Airways and to Israel with EL AL. Facilities provided by the airport include information desk, post office, 24-hour bureaux de change, banks, cash points, chemists, special assistance rooms, left luggage facility, Executive Centre providing meetings rooms and conference organization.
Getting a flight to Rome is a hassle-free process. There are numerous airlines flying into the Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport. The problem is getting affordable airfare to Rome. Being one of the most sought-after tourist destinations, airfare to Rome is more expensive than to most cities in Europe. There are airlines offering bargains to travelers depending on the time of the year and the airport they choose to take off from for their trip. Then there is the option of traveling on Monday through Thursday which traditionally is less costly then on weekends.
